Is it wrong to repeatedly pray for the same thing?
This is an interesting question and I thank God for the privilege to give you an answer. The bible is the standard for our faith and practice, so we have no other option than to search what the inspired word of God has to say concerning this all important subject matter. I beseech you by the mercies of God to carefully read through this article for your spiritual edification
It is scriptural
Praying for the same thing over and over is not wrong, in fact it is scriptural. Jesus gave an illustration respecting the unjust judge and the widow who demanded for justice and he stressed on the relevance of persistent prayer. The widow was persistent in her request, to the extent that the unjust judge said this: For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, 'Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.'" And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? Luke 18; 4-7
Because of her unwavering persistence, she finally received her heart desire. How much more our God? He will answer our prayers when we repeatedly pray for the same thing.
Even in the life of Jesus Christ, at the time his soul was exceedingly sorrowful unto death, he repeatedly prayed the same prayer: And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more-- Matthew 26; 44
If Jesus thought it worthwhile to pray the same prayer topic, then we can emulate him.
In the book of Matthew, it is written; "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you- Matthew 7; 7
In the original Greek it means, keeping on asking, keeping on seeking, keeping on knocking and the door will be opened to you. This bespeaks on the need to repeatedly pray for the same thing over and over, once it is in concordance with God’s will
Apostle Paul in his epistle to the Corinthians, he wrote down this: "Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me-- 2 Corinthians 12; 8-9
The apostle at a point poured out his heart to the Lord in prayer, repeatedly praying for the same thing and the good Lord answered him.
Praying for the same thing is a sign that we are totally dependent on God. But we must see to it that our prayers are in unison with the will of God for our lives. If our prayers are consistent with God's will and we persevere in it, God will answer our prayers: This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him-- 1 John 5; 14-15
Beloved, it is in line with God's will for us to be persistent and persevere in prayer. Some one might ask, does it mean that if I persistently pray for the same thing, God is likely to grant my request? But the question is, what if your prayer point is contrary to the will of God though you repeatedly pray for the same thing? If your prayer point is not consistent with his will for your life, how can you expect to see that request granted? He does his things for his own glory and for our ultimate good. Praying for the same thing is not wrong, but we must do it with a right attitude and our prayers must have it roots in the holy scriptures. God bless you
A thought to ponder 🤔
