Will God judge those who have never heard about Him?

Precious Reader, this question is a difficult one to answer. I must confess that am deeply emotional about this question, because it carries eternal consequences. Will God judge a person who has never heard about him? How can God be justified in condemning a person who has never heard anything about his existence?

Isn't God unjust to cast a person to hell who has never heard about him? This is a difficult question that many people out there are asking and probably you reading this article may also be asking. Though this is a difficult question, nevertheless, the answer to this question is encapsulated in the Holy scriptures. I will employ all my powers to explain it to you in a simple way you can easily comprehend.

Some theories

Some people believe, since such people have never heard about God, God does not have a righteous foundation upon which to condemn them for their sins. According to that theory, God will be unjust to punish them for something they have no knowledge about.

Whiles others also believe everyone will be saved through Christ, whether or not you know who God is. These people believe in what we call universalism, they have a universalistic view of salvation. They are of the opinion that every single person in human history will be saved through Jesus Christ and the merits of his sacrifice will avail for all, including those who have never heard about who God is. To dive deeper on universalism, I encourage you to read my article, Is universalism biblical? For further study on what universalism really entails.

Still others believe, there is no such thing as future judgement, to them there is no such thing as hell. So, even those who have never heard about God are safe from future condemnation.

These are false theories propounded by false teachers, their teachings are not consistent with the whole counsel of God.

God will judge everyone justly

For example, let's assume there is a small village somewhere in Africa, where Christian missionaries have never been there to speak to them about God. If they should die without a knowledge of who God is, will God be fair to cast them to hell? God is just and he will judge everyone with a righteous judgement. A person who has never heard about God is still accountable to God.

The answer to this question is that God will judge everyone based on the light of the knowledge they have received, for revelation is progressive. God has revealed himself to every man in nature and deep in our hearts. The people in the village intuitively knows that there is the existence of a supernatural being and yet suppressed this knowledge.

Nature itself teaches that God exists and these people failed to search for him. Apostle Paul wrote this: Because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them-- Romans 1; 19

The apostle continued further; For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse-- Romans 1; 20

God has manifested his invisible attributes, and eternal power through the things which he has made and is evident to their eyes, so they are without excuse. This is why atheism is foolishness, because deep down their hearts they know God exists, for he has made himself known to them in nature and in their hearts, so they also are without excuse.

The people in the village will be judged by God, primarily, because they rejected the knowledge they had about God and instead of seeking after him, they did things to please themselves instead. In the book of Deuteronomy, it is written: But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul-- Deuteronomy 4; 29

If they seek after God, God will be found of them and they will have an intimate relationship with him, but because they rejected the knowledge of God revealed to them in nature, they shall be justly be judged by God.

But as Christians, our emphasis should be to reach out to the unreached with the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. So that those who have not heard might hear and be saved, for salvation can only be found in our blessed Lord (Jonah 2; 9). God bless you

A thought to ponder 🤔

Our emphasis should be to reach out to the unreached with the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We defend and exposit the truth of the gospel
