Is once saved, forever saved a license to sin?

One of the accusation often leveled against once saved, forever saved is that it gives people the license to engage in all forms of illicit acts. This accusation is often brought about by those who reject the idea of once saved, forever saved. Proponents believe they are actually contending for the truth of the gospel by pointing out once saved, forever saved as a demonic doctrine. But of a truth, those who think once saved, forever saved gives men the occasion to wallow in licentiousness, it because they are not thoroughly imbued with the whole counsel of God respecting once saved, forever saved.

Their knowledge of the intricacies of once saved, forever saved is very shallow. How can a biblical doctrine give men the license to lead a sinful lifestyle? Or is it that now God is the author of sin? Those who holds the view that once saved, forever saved is an ungodly doctrine, unconsciously they are saying that God is the author of sin, why? Because a doctrine which has been faithfully exposited by the authors of the bible through the Spirit is now being regarded as a doctrine which is according to ungodliness.

Can once saved, forever saved lead to a sinful lifestyle?

The answer to this question is a big no. In the book of Titus, it is written: For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age (Titus 2; 11-12). Once saved, forever saved is a doctrine which instructs us to deny ungodliness and worldly pleasures and to live a holy life in this world.

How can a subject matter that Jesus himself taught during his earthly ministry, give men the license to lead ungodly lifestyle? Once saved, forever saved is a doctrine which is according to godliness. A deep knowledge of once saved, forever saved will saturate you with the love of God, and it will enable you to rest in the security of your salvation. This knowledge will cause you to fall more and more in love with Jesus, whiles your love for sin will begin to diminish drastically.

Far from being a licentious doctrine, it is a teaching which produces true holiness. A true understanding of this doctrine will let you conclude, that from henceforth you will love him wholeheartedly and live the rest of your life for him.

Once saved, forever saved also produces a heartfelt gratitude for the salvific work of our Lord Jesus Christ in our stead. Knowing that we cannot lose our salvation is enough to be eternally grateful to God for. Often in prayer, I always thank God for the eternal security of my salvation. Whoever is thankful to God for the gift of the security of his salvation will live a life worthy of the gospel of Christ, and not vice versa

Shall we sin that grace may abound?

Apostle Paul was often accused falsely for his radical grace preaching. They accused him of teaching, let us sin that grace may abound, but the apostle never preached that. So in chapter 6 of his epistle to the Romans, he gave a defense of his teaching by asking a rhetorical question, What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? -- Romans 6; 1. I love the answer he gave in the next verse: May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?-- Romans 6; 2. Christian's are dead to sin and not dead in sin. To be dead to sin means that the domineering power of sin has lost it hold over our lives, by reason of our new birth, which was by faith in Jesus Christ. If we are dead to sin, then how is it possible for us to persistently and unrepentantly lead a sinful lifestyle?

Like Paul we are often accused of encouraging people to lead a sinful lifestyle, because we unabashedly preaches the biblical doctrine of once saved, forever saved. Believers are actually dead to sin, and not dead in sin (to be dead in sin means that sin exercises it's sovereignty over you and this was true in our unregenerate state) but this doctrine of once saved, forever saved is according to godliness. How can a truly born again Christian in whom dwells the Holy Spirit, and has an in-depth understanding of the finished work of Christ, ever take advantage of his grace to engage in sinful lifestyle? It is a myth, it doesn't exist.

It is utterly impossible for the doctrine of once saved, forever saved to be a false doctrine, because of people's opinions that it gives birth to a sinful lifestyle without any biblical basis. Rather, it is a doctrine which promotes a life of holiness, therefore, it is incumbent on us to herald this truth from the depth of our hearts for the glory of God the father. God bless you
