If a Christian dies with an unconfessed sin, is he or she still saved?

Of a truth, many people out there often ask this question, because they really want to know the truth. But woe unto me if I use my own mind to give you an answer to this question, rather than relying solely on the scriptures. The answer to this question can only be found in the holy writ. Some people are of the view that when a Christian dies with an unconfessed sin, he or she loses his salvation. Other people also says, no, if a Christian dies with an unconfessed sin that does not in any way negate his salvation. The question is which viewpoint is right? To find out the answer, I beseech thee to carefully read through this exposition.

Unconfessed sins are forgiven

It is important to know, that the sins of our entire lives, our past, present and future sins are forgiven. When Jesus was crucified on the cross, he died and redeemed us from all our sins. The bible says: When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions (Colossians 2: 13). The psalmist wrote down a new testament reality in these words: As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us (Psalm 103; 12).

If a Christian dies with an unconfessed sin, we can rest assure that his sins are forgiven. No sin is powerful enough to take a Christian to hell, not even an unconfessed sin. What unconfessed sin does to a Christian in this life is that, it impedes our fellowship with the Lord, but in the sight of God that sin itself is washed away by the efficacious blood of Christ.

Paul wrote this by the Spirit: "Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account"- Romans 4; 8.

The Greek word for, "not", is, "ou me", which means, " not at all, never, by no means, it's a double negative strengthening the denial. After salvation, never will God ever take into account our sins, because our sins have been dealt with on the cross of calvary. This means that when a born again christian stumbles and falls into sin and dies in it, God will by no means reckon that sin into his account. Our sins are all forgiven, for in Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1; 7).

Salvation is by pure grace and cannot be lost

Salvation is simply an act of God by which he saved us unto himself through the Man Jesus Christ. We did nothing to deserve this gratuitous gift, it was freely given to us the moment we exercised saving faith in Christ Jesus. Apostle Paul wrote: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast  (Ephesians 2: 8-9).

Assuming a Christian brother had a misunderstanding with someone on the phone whiles driving, and in the process, out of anger he begins to rain insults on the person, but unfortunately gets an accident and dies instantly. Will he make it to heaven or he will perish, because he didn't get the chance to confess that particular sin to God?

Far be it from me to condone sin, but in such case he is still saved and will make it to heaven. The reason being that salvation in itself is a gift of God which cannot be lost. There is absolutely nothing which can ever separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, not even, an unconfessed sin (Romans 8; 35-39). If you are in Christ Jesus, then you have received eternal life. Apostle John wrote: And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life (1 John 5:11-12). Every born again christian possesses the gift of eternal life, by reason of our faith in Christ Jesus.

I once asked a gentleman a question, I asked him whether eternal life can be lost and he unashamedly answered yes. I was a bit disappointed, because I felt he didn't really understood the meaning of eternal life. Eternal life means an unending life, a life without an end. If we possess eternal life, an unending life, then how can this life be lost, since it is eternal? Eternal means eternal, for if eternal life can be lost, then it is not really eternal as the bible describes it.

If a Christian dies without confession of his sins, yet because he has received eternal life as a gift, it is impossible for him to lose it, his salvation is still secure, even in death. If a Christian dies with an unconfessed sin, that unconfessed sin cannot in anyway make him or her lose his salvation. Salvation is a gift and the gifts of God are without repentance, see (Romans 11; 29). It is utterly impossible for an unconfessed sin to annul the finished work of Christ. God bless you

A thought to ponder 🤔

Every born again christian possesses the gift of eternal life, by reason of our faith in Christ.

We defend and exposit the truth of the gospel

  1. Amen! Our God is faithful to His word and to us. His love is unfailing, and His grace is unending, but so is His sanctification in our lives. His is just as faithful to continue to change us into His likeness.
