Why does it matter that Jesus rose from the dead?

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead has been, and is still under intense scrutiny by skeptics just for them to ascertain whether it is true or not. But the truth of the matter is that, Jesus Christ died and resurrected from the grave on the third day, even as he himself prophesied, see (Matthew 20; 18-20). The resurrection of Jesus Christ is an historical fact, and there are biblical evidence to buttress it and archeological findings also attest to it. Though skeptics in history have done all their best to rubbish the claims of the Christian's, yet the evidence which countenance the resurrection of Christ are more than enough and cannot be over-emphasized. An excellent author by the name Michael Houdsman wrote this: "Accordingly, the historicity of Christ bodily resurrection has been examined and investigated from every angle and studied endlessly by countless scholars, theologians, professors, and others over the centuries. And even though a number of theories have...

Did Jesus truly rose from the dead?

Christians from all over around the world have been insisting that the Man Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead. Our belief in the resurrection of Christ is a major theological truth which is central in our creed, and non negotiable in Christendom, because it is intimately linked to our salvation. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and yet denies the resurrection of Christ is not a Christian even to begin with. But did Jesus Christ truly rose from the dead? Are there historical facts to verify whether Jesus truly resurrected from the dead? Is it even possible for a person to die, and literally rise from the dead bodily without experiencing corruption? History has shown that a person dies once and after that he or she is buried in the grave.  But we Christian's affirm strongly that Jesus Christ is unique from all others. We are of the view that he died and rose on the third day, and his resurrection vindicated his claim about his identity and the work he came to accomplish on our...

Is Jesus our brother?

By the leading of the Spirit, the authors of the bible ascribed different titles to our blessed Lord which reveals aspects of his work and person. He is described as king of kings and Lord of all lords (Revelation 17; 14), he is also called our savior (Titus 2; 13). Jesus is also referred as the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12; 2) and in another place he is described as the righteous Judge (Acts 17; 31). The bible is also clear about the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is of equal substance and essence with the father (John 10: 30). He is our Lord and God as thomas described him (John 20; 28). But did you know that Jesus is also our brother? Many people address Jesus as our Lord and Savior and that is excellent, but are unwitting of the truth as it is revealed in the holy scriptures that he is our brother as well. The bible says: For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the autho...

The threefold office of Jesus Christ

When you carefully read throughout the old testament with the lens of the Spirit, you will see that there were three main offices established by God. These three offices were namely, the office of a prophet, the office of a Priest, and the office of a king. Those called into any of these offices, were mostly anointed with holy oil, see (1 kings 19; 16, Exodus 30; 30, 1samuel 10; 1). These three main offices in the old testament was unique and none occupied all three offices at the same time. It is important to know that according to church history, the 4th century preacher and writer, Eusebius of Caesarea was the first person to work out the classification of the threefold office of Christ, but was fully fleshed out by that excellent theologian, "John Calvin" in his magnum opus, "the institute of the Christian Religion". Eusebius of Caesarea penned down these words: "And we have been told also that certain of the prophets themselves became, by the act of anoint...

The significance of the veil that was rent asunder at the death of Jesus Christ

When our blessed Lord was crucified on the cross, miraculous events took place. The bible tells us, that for the space of three hours, darkness covered the earth, and after he yielded up his spirit: the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints which had fallen asleep were raised back to life, and they entered the holy city of Jerusalem and appeared to many. One of the Roman soldiers who witnessed these miracles, suddenly cried out and said, 'Truly this Man was the Son of God" (Matthew 27; 54). But one of the most important event that is oftentimes overlooked which took place at the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary, is in respect to the veil that separated the holy place from the most holy place. The thick curtain that separated the holy place from the holy of holies was torn into twain when Jesus gave up the ghost: And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the t...

The depth of the Love of Christ

When we talk about the love of Christ, it simply means the unconditional love that Jesus Christ has for his people. An excellent writer wrote this concerning the love of Christ, "His love can be briefly stated as his willingness to act in our best interest, especially in meeting our greatest need, even though it cost him everything and even though we are the least worthy of such love". Jesus Christ existed as God alongside with the father and the divine Spirit (Genesis 1; 1-2). Jesus possessed all the divine rights and privileges as God. He enjoyed equality and fellowship with the other members of the Godhead, even before time began (John 17; 5, 15; 26). He was worshipped by the glorified saints and by the innumerable company of angels in heaven. But the triune God saw a need, and what was the need? Man had fallen into sin through the disobedience of the one Man, see (Romans 5; 12). Sin and it's fatal effects entered into the world. Mankind became hostile to God, we becam...

The meaning of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ

The transfiguration of Jesus Christ appears in the synoptic gospels, which is an indication that his transfiguration played a pivotal role in his life and ministry. Let us look at the account of Luke: Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.  Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him. And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah"-not realizing what he was saying. While he was saying this, a ...

What does it mean that Jesus is our Savior?

Beloved, before we can comprehend what it means that Jesus is our savior, we need to first know who is a savior and what does our savior saves us from and for what purpose? By the end of this article, we will have answers to these questions, so we can better appreciate and be thankful for the work Jesus Christ wrought in our room and stead two thousand years ago. A savior is a person who saves someone from something. In the old testament, God in his grace saved the children of Israel by a strong and a mighty hand from the hands of the Egyptians (Deuteronomy 7; 9). God became their savior by delivering them from the yoke of the Egyptians. God is also depicted as the Savior of his people in several places in the old testament, see (2 Samuel 22: 3, Psalm 17; 7, Isaiah 19; 20, Isaiah 45; 25, Jeremiah 14; 8, Hosea 13; 4).  I read a beautiful story sometime ago by an excellent author, which I will like to share with you because it is very consistent with our subject matter, and I believe...

What does it mean that Jesus is our Mediator?

Beloved, to better understand and appreciate the role of Jesus Christ as a our Mediator, it is imperative on our part to know, why we need a Mediator? Who are we in a dispute with, that necessitates the mediatorial role of Jesus Christ? The bible tells us: For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1Timothy 2: 5). The question is who is a Mediator? A Mediator is a go-between opposing parties with the sole purpose of reconciling them together. A Mediator does not create disputes, but rather settles disputes. Under the law, the high Priest alone was legally mandated to enter within the veil with the blood of a lamb without blemish into the holy of holies, where the divine shekinah of God dwells and he makes atonement for the sins of the entire people of Israel (Leviticus 16). The sacrifices for sin by the high Priest was done year by year on the day of atonement for the sins of the Children of Israel: but into the second, only the high pri...
