What makes Jesus Christ very unique? Part B
The Man Jesus Christ though willfully rejected by men, is nevertheless very precious to every believing Christian, and he is also unique from every creature. The uniqueness of his person distinguishes and sets him above all others. It is a grave error on the part of anyone to compare Jesus Christ with any religious leader, whether dead or alive. How can a created being be compared to the creator himself, it doesn't match up. Those who makes such comparison are unregenerate, and they are not instructed in the word of righteousness. A new creation will by no means compare Jesus Christ with any person or with any so called religious leader, but sanctifies him as holy in his heart. A born again Christian places Jesus Christ in an unmatched pedestal, that none can attain to his level. The uniqueness of our blessed Lord is conspicuously revealed in the scriptures for our spiritual edification. Let us go through some of the things that makes Jesus Christ very special from all others.
One of the things that makes Jesus Christ very unique is his incarnation. It is an established truth that Jesus Christ is the very God of very God, he is perfect in Godhood. He existed as God prior to his self emptying. The bible says: No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us (John 1; 18). The apostle by the leading of the Spirit, describes the nature of Christ by referring to him as the unique One, and as God himself, who in his incarnation exegeted God to us. Jesus Christ was preexistent and equal with God, but he did not consider his equality with God as something to cling unto, but emptied himself of his glory and divine privileges as God to take on flesh. He stooped low for our sake to take on a human nature with all it's weaknesses and limitations into union with himself (Philippians 2; 6-8). God became human not for his own sake, but for our sake, in order that he might redeem us from our sins through the sacrifice of himself. It pleased the father that in Christ all the fullness of the Godhead should dwell bodily (Colossians 1; 19). God literally took on flesh in an act of self renunciation to dwell among us, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. The uniqueness of his person can be seen in his incarnation.
Another thing that sets Jesus Christ apart is his immeasurable and matchless love. The love of Christ is unique and eternal. His love is past finding out, his love transcends all human understanding. No one can fathom the breadth, and length and height and depth of the love that Jesus has for us. His love for us does not wane with time, but it remains the same. The bible says: The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness (Jeremiah 31:3). The love Jesus has for us is everlasting, before we came into this world he knew us and loved us. Therefore, I beseech you to walk with the consciousness of the love that Jesus Christ has you. Apostle Paul knew Jesus Christ loved him, and he wrote down these words: I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me (Galatians 2:20). The primary reason for the incarnation of the Son of God is his love for us. The eternal nature of his love sets him apart from all others.
Another thing that makes Jesus unique is the fact that he claimed to be God. Jesus made bold claims to be God: Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple (John 8; 58-59). Jesus equated himself with the father on several occasions. On one occasion he said: I and the father are one (John 10: 30). In another place Jesus said: "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me (John 14; 1). And in the book of Matthew, it is written: All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him (Matthew 11:27). These and more were not statements that a mere creature could make without being guilty of blasphemy, except him who is equal in nature with the father can make such claims to deity. This claims made Jesus Christ very unique.
Jesus also claimed to be the unique Son of God and that set him apart from all others. We are sons of God by virtue of our faith in Jesus Christ, see (Galatians 3; 26), but Jesus is the unique Son of God by nature. As the Son of God, he is equal with the father in relation to his divine nature: For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God (John 5:18). The Jews understood Jesus claim to be the Son of God to mean that he is equal and in the same class with the father. Jesus claim to be the Son of God was authenticated by his resurrection from the grave (Romans 1; 4). His claim to be the Son of God makes him very unique.
Another thing that makes Jesus very unique is his substitutionary sacrifice in our stead and room. Seldom will a person voluntarily lay down his life for another person, or for someone whom he has no acquaintance with. The bible says: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Even in our state of enmity with God, Christ died for us. Through his substitutionary sacrifice, we have received the free gift of salvation with all it's accompanying blessing. We owe our eternal salvation to him because of his death on the accursed cross on our behalf. He died as a substitute for innumerable company of people, for he has purchased with his blood people from every tribe, and tongue and people and nation unto God (Revelation 5; 9). Who has done or can do what Jesus has done? His substitutionary death for us distinguishes him from all others.
Another thing which makes Jesus Christ very unique is his bodily resurrection. He died and he resurrected not as a ghost, nor, did he remain in the grave, but he resurrected bodily from the dead. All other religious leaders in history have died and seen corruption, but Jesus also died, but never saw corruption, he resurrected from the grave and he is now sitted at the right hand of the majesty on high, see (2 Timothy 2; 8, Matthew 28, John 28, Hebrews 1; 3). We Christians do not worship a dead person, but we worship Jesus Christ who is alive and forever with us (Matthew 28; 20). His resurrection sets him apart as unique.
The Man Jesus Christ is the head of the Church. He is the head of the church which is his own body, see (Ephesians 1; 22, Colossians 1; 18). But unfortunately, the Roman Catholic Church claims that their Pope is the head of the Church. Their popes will stand before Christ on that day to give an account for a usurpation of something which do not legally belong to them. The only head of the Church is Jesus Christ and none else. The true Church does not subject herself to the Pope of Rome as the head of the Church, but to the only one who loved her and gave himself for her as an acceptable offering unto God. Jesus Christ is the head of the Church (Ephesians 4; 15) and this makes him very unique.
Another thing that makes Jesus unique is his immutability. Man is mutable, we change our minds on a daily basis. But Jesus is unlike us, he doesn't change his mind, he remains the same, he is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13; 8). We know that God alone is immutable (Malachi 3; 6), and immutability is attributed to Jesus Christ in the new testament, see (Hebrews 1; 10-12: 13; 8). The fact that Jesus is immutable makes him very unique from all others.
Another truth of scripture that makes Jesus Christ very special is that he is the firstborn over every creature (Colossians 1; 15). The bible did not say he is the first person to be created, but rather he is the firstborn over every creature. Jesus is the firstborn over all creation, implies his preeminence over every creature. He occupies the first and chief place over every created being. It doesn't mean Jesus is created, because the verse sixteen of chapter one, of the book of Colossians reveals Jesus Christ as the creator. Jesus being the firstborn over every creature distinguishes him as unique.
Another thing that also makes Jesus special is the fact that he is the Lord of all (Acts 10; 36). The biblical meaning of Lord is Master, it means one who possesses power and authority over others. Jesus Christ is the Lord himself, who possesses all power in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28; 18). He is the sovereign Lord whom we worship and pay divine submission and obeisance to. And on that day every tongue including his enemies, Satan and his cohorts and unbelievers will all bow the knee and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord (Philippians 2; 9- 11). Jesus Christ is the Lord of all and this makes him very unique. God richly bless you
