What makes Jesus Christ very unique? Part A
Many people normally ask this question, what is it that makes Jesus Christ unique or special from all others? Some ask this question with a sincere heart in order to know more about Jesus Christ, whereas others ask this question out of mere prejudice against him. Many of the things that makes Jesus Christ unique is a central tenet of the Christian faith. let us look at some of the things that makes Jesus Christ so unique.
One of the things that makes Jesus unique, is the fact that he is both God and Man simultaneously. No man or no religious leader is both God and Man at the same time, except the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. In order to save us from our sins, as God he condescended to take on flesh, and dwelt among us. "The two whole, perfect, and distinct natures, the Godhead and the Manhood, were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, or confusion. Which person is very God, and very man, yet one Christ, the only mediator between God and Man" (The Westminster confession of faith). The biblical truth of the two distinct natures in Christ Jesus sets him apart as unique, see proof texts (John 1; 1, 14, Colossians 2; 9, Philippians 2; 6-8).
Another thing that makes him unique, is that he is eternal. His eternality sets him apart, for he was in existence before time began, and he is still in existence at the right hand of the father and will forever be in being. Jesus Christ said: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (Revelation 1: 8). His eternalness identifies him as God. No creature can claim to be in being before time began, but Jesus has no beginning and end, he is eternal. His eternality makes him very unique from every created being.
Another thing that also makes our blessed Lord special is his miraculous conception and birth. The virgin Mary conceived without the concurrence of a man. She became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit: But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1: 20). God was conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary, and was born as a little baby (Isaiah 9; 6). His human nature was immaculate, because he was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Another thing that makes Jesus unique is his sinlessness. On earth he was tempted, he experienced all the temptations such as is common to man and yet remained sinless. Jesus himself asked his accusers a question: Which one of you convicts Me of sin? (John 8; 46). None of them could accuse him of any sin he had committed. Apostle Paul says, he knew no sin, (2 Corinthians 5; 21), and apostle John also says, that in him there is no sin (1 John 3; 5), and apostle Peter also wrote: who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth (1 Peter 2: 22) and the author of the book of Hebrews also wrote: he is without sin (Hebrews 4; 15). Every human being was born in sin, none of us is sinless in this life. The one and only person in human history that was sinless is the Man Jesus Christ. His sinlessness makes him very special in a unique manner.
Also Jesus Christ is the creator and sustainer of all things. The Holy scriptures identifies Jesus Christ as the creator and sustainer of all things. Apostle John wrote concerning the creatorship of Jesus in these words: All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him (John 1: 3,10). All things were made by Jesus Christ, he is the creator of all things. He is also the sustainer of all things. The author of Hebrews wrote by the Spirit, that Jesus upholds all things by the word of his power, see (Hebrews 1; 3) and apostle Paul also says that in Christ all things consist (Colossians 1; 17). The entire universe is upheld by the mighty power of Jesus Christ. No mere man can sustain such an office, save God himself. Jesus Christ is the creator and sustainer of the universe and that makes him unique and sets him above all others, there is none to be compared to him.
Jesus Christ exercised divine prerogatives on earth. He did things that only God could do. He had the power on earth to forgive sin, (Mark 2; 5-7), he changed water into wine (John 2; 1- 11), he rebuked the wind and the sea and it became perfectly calm (Matthew 8; 26), he walked on water (Mark 6; 46-50), and he also fed about five thousand people miraculously (Luke 9; 14-17). This were things that only God could do, and Jesus on earth exercised those divine prerogatives. The signs and wonders Jesus performed sets him apart and makes unique from all others.
The fact that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation is something that makes him very unique as well. Some people believe there are many ways a person can be saved. But such an assertion is fallacious, it's contradicts the truth of the gospel. Jesus Christ is the only way a person can be saved eternally. Jesus Christ made a bold declaration by saying: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me (John 14: 6). No one can come to the father, except he comes through Jesus Christ has the way. It is written in the book of Acts: And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Salvation can be found in none else save in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is worshipped as God and this distinguishes him, and makes him very unique from everyone. Christians all over around the world worships Jesus Christ. He is God and as God he is worthy of our praises and worship. He is our all in all, he is our great God and Savior and we worship him for who he is. On earth, he received divine worship: And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him (Matthew 28:9). Jesus did not rebuke them for worshipping him, but received it because he is worthy of their worship. God the father also commanded all the angels to worship Jesus: And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, "And let all the angels of God worship Him" ((Hebrews 1:6). Divine obeisance and worship is continually ascribed to Jesus Christ by the church which is his own body, and by the myriads of angels ( Revelation 4 and 5).
Another thing that makes Jesus to stand out, is the fact that he fulfilled the old testament prophecies about the Messiah. There were many false Messiah's that preceded the coming of the One true Messiah. None of those false Messiah's could perfectly fulfill the prophecies respecting the birth, sufferings, death and resurrection and ascension of the Messiah. The only person to fulfill all those Messianic prophecies was Jesus: Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled (Luke 24: 44). Jesus is the "Christ or Messiah" and his Messiahship makes him very unique.
Another thing that makes Jesus special is the fact that, all judgement has been entrusted into the hands of Jesus Christ. The father will Judge no one, but has committed all judgement into his hands, see (John 5; 22). All believers will one day stand before the judgement seat of Christ, also known as the bema seat of Christ and we will be judged based on our works and rewards will be issued out to faithful Christians, whiles others will lose their rewards (1 Corinthians 3; 11- 15, 2 Corinthians 5; 10). Unbelievers, those who reject Christ here on earth will be judged and be punished by Jesus Christ himself (Revelation 20; 11-15). He is ordained by the father to be the judge of all. Jesus Christ is the Judge, who will administer righteous judgement on that faithful day. Jesus Christ is the Judge of all and this makes him very unique from all others. God bless you
