Many people out there have their own opinion as to when the church of our Lord Jesus Christ actually began. But I will rather subject myself to the scriptures than to hearken to the unbiblical views of certain brethren in the faith. Someone might ask, what is the Church? The Greek terminology for, "Church" is "Ekklesia" and it means, " the called out ones". They are the people whom God has called out from the world into Christ Jesus. Whoever is united to God through faith in Christ Jesus is part of the Church or the body of Christ. In the apostles creed, there is a phrase which states, "He descended to hell". The question is; did Jesus literally descended to hell when he died? There are scriptures which proponents of this view uses to support their notion that Jesus went to hell when he died. Such people believe his suffering on the cross was not enough, so he went to hell to suffer further for our redemption. Others also are of the view that, Jesus did not descend to hell, but he went to paradise on the day of his death. Both views are contradictory, so which view is much more in unison with the whole counsel of God? This is a difficult question, but with the Lord's help, I will give you a satisfactory answer. Universalism is a doctrine which is gaining grounds and many people are supporting this particular teaching in this 21st century. The question is, what is universalism? Universalism is a doctrine which asserts that every single person in human history will eventually be saved and end up in heaven with Christ.  An excellent theologian defined a universalist as "someone who believes that every human being whom God has created or will create will finally come to enjoy the everlasting salvation into which Christians enter here and now"-- J.I. Packer.  Universalists rejects the mainstream Christian teaching on hell. They do not believe that a loving God can ever punish anybody in hell, because they rejected Christ for salvation.
