What was the role of the Holy Spirit in the O.T?

It is amazing how some people ignorantly asserts that the Holy Spirit was quiescent under the old testament. Others also are of the opinion that the Holy Spirit is just an active force or a thing and not a person, but is it true? A true and a careful bible study will make you fathom the fact that the Spirit of God was not dormant in the old testament, and all his works cannot also be attributed to an active force or a thing, but to a true divine person. Let us dissect some of the functions of the Holy Spirit under the old testament for our own edification. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit I can see in the old testament was that, He inspired prophecy by giving his servants utterance. The prophets in the O.T were given prophetic insights into future events and also respecting the coming and work of the Messiah. The people lived in great anticipation of his coming, because of the various inspired prophecies communicated to them by the Spirit of God.  I love how the apostle beautifu...

How do I receive the Holy Spirit?

Precious Reader, various theories have been propounded, as to how a person can receive the Holy Spirit. Of a truth, there is only one way a person can receive the precious gift of the Holy Spirit, and not many ways as some falsely teaches. The Holy Spirit is received through faith in Jesus Christ  The Holy Spirit is given at the very moment of salvation. Once a person puts his faith in Christ Jesus, instantly the person receives the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul wrote this: "In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory"-- Ephesians 1; 13-14 From the text, we can see that after we heard the gospel of our salvation and we believed, we were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. So you can see that it was after we trusted in Christ fo...

What is the difference between LORD, Lord and lord?

The usage of, "LORD, Lord and lord" in the bible is not a mistake, because they carry different meaning. Some people think that they mean the same thing, but when you consult the Hebrew and Greek translation, you will come to the realization that they are used differently in the bible. My main emphasis for this short article is to distinguish the difference between the bible usage of "LORD, Lord and lord" for your spiritual edification.                                     LORD                                                                       ''LORD'' in the Hebrew is the word, ''YHWH'' , also known as the tetragrammaton (four letter words). It is often pronounced, "Yahweh or "Yehovah, or Jehovah", which is the person...

What does it mean that Jesus is the Alpha and Omega?

Alpha and Omega appears three times in the bible and in each instance, Jesus applied the appellation to himself. In the book of Revelation, Jesus said this: "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty"- Revelation 1; 8 Revelation 21: 6 "Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost". Revelation 22: 13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. A Christian author wrote this, "Among the Jewish rabbis, it was common to use the first and the last letters of the Hebrew alphabet to denote the whole of anything, from beginning to end". When Jesus says, He is the Alpha and Omega, it means that He is the beginning and the culmination of all things...

What does it mean that Jesus is Lord?

It is without controversy, the Lordship of Christ is ubiquitous throughout the pages of the holy writ. It is quite unfortunate that many out there do not acknowledge his Lordship over their lives, but a time is coming that there will be a universal acknowledgement of the divine sovereignty of Christ which will ultimately redound to the glory of God the father, and this alone brings me peace. The title "Lord" as applied to Jesus Christ reveals an aspect of his person and work. "Lord" in the Greek is the word, "Kurios", and it means, "Master or one who possesses authority over others". Kurios is a respectful title referred to human leaders, or to God. So the context of it's usage will determine it's meaning.  For instance, it is written: For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords-- 1 Corinthians 8; 5. From the text, we can see that Paul tells us that there are many lords,...

What are the meaning of Jesus, I am statements in the book of John?

Beloved in Christ, Jesus employed metaphors to reveal who He is and what he came to do. He used seven ''I am'' statements to reveal his identity and mission in the book of John. Let us look at the seven ''I am'' statements and after, I will examine them in their context for your edification and comfort.  John 6: 48 I am the bread of life John 8: 12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." John 10: 7 So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. John 10: 11 "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. John 11: 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies John 14: 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me John 15: 5 I am ...

Is the Holy Spirit a person?

Is the Holy Spirit a person or an active force or something else? This is an important question regarding the true identity of the Holy Spirit, and am positive that by the end of this article, your enquiry will be satisfied. The Holy Spirit is a person and not an active force or something else   It is quite unfortunate, that many people read the scriptures which speaks about the Holy Spirit and yet refers to him as an impersonal active force, instead of a true divine person. There are conspicuous and irrefutable evidence in the scriptures, which argues extensively for the case of the personhood of the Holy Spirit, other than a mere active force. Let us dive deeper into what the holy writ has to say about our subject matter  Hebrews 3:7-8 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "Today if you hear His voice. Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness From the text, we can see that the words were uttered by the Holy Spirit himsel...

Who is the Holy Spirit according to the Holy writ?

The identity of the Holy Spirit has been a subject of great contention. The nature of the Holy Spirit is misunderstood by many. Some people see the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force or power, rather than a real person. Others do not even regard the holy Spirit in anyway, to them the Holy Spirit is a myth.  The Nicene creed gave a biblical definition of the nature of the Holy Spirit in these words, "He is the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.” I encourage you to prayerfully read  my thoughts on the person and nature of the Holy Spirit for your edification. The Holy Spirit is God   The Holy Spirit according to the holy writ is that He is God. Apostle Peter said this: But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your o...

Justification, Sanctification and glorification, how are they related?

Justification, sanctification and glorification carries deep theological significance, as they relate to our salvation. They are theological terms which are taught extensively in the scriptures, especially from the pen of apostle Paul. Justification, sanctification and glorification has been classified as the three phases of salvation. If you are able to comprehend and exegete the differences between them, then it means you are growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the life of a born again Christian, justification is in the past tense, sanctification is in the present tense and glorification is in the future tense. I beseech you by the mercies of God to carefully read my thoughts on the subject matter for your spiritual edification. What is justification? Justification per what is written in the Holy writ is a one time forensic act of God by which he pronounces a sinner righteous, on the basis of the substitutionary work of Christ in his stead. The moment a...
