When did the Church begin?

Many people out there have their own opinion as to when the church of our Lord Jesus Christ actually began. But I will rather subject myself to the scriptures than to hearken to the unbiblical views of certain brethren in the faith. Someone might ask, what is the Church? The Greek terminology for, "Church" is "Ekklesia" and it means, " the called out ones". They are the people whom God has called out from the world into Christ Jesus. Whoever is united to God through faith in Christ Jesus is part of the Church or the body of Christ. The church is made up of only believers, those who're born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 16; 5) .  The Church began on the day of Pentecost Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he said this to his disciples: And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."-- Luke 24; 49 The disciples were instructed not to leave ...

Did Jesus descend to hell between his death and resurrection?

In the apostles creed, there is a phrase which states, "He descended to hell". The question is; did Jesus literally descended to hell when he died? There are scriptures which proponents of this view uses to support their notion that Jesus went to hell when he died. Such people believe his suffering on the cross was not enough, so he went to hell to suffer further for our redemption. Others also are of the view that, Jesus did not descend to hell, but he went to paradise on the day of his death. Both views are contradictory, so which view is much more in unison with the whole counsel of God? This is a difficult question, but with the Lord's help, I will give you a satisfactory answer. What is Sheol or Hades? Sheol is an Hebrew word which means the realm of the dead. In the book of Psalms, it is written: For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption--- Psalm 16; 10 . The Hebrew word for "hell" in this text is ...

Is universalism biblical?

Universalism is a doctrine which is gaining grounds and many people are supporting this particular teaching in this 21st century. The question is, what is universalism? Universalism is a doctrine which asserts that every single person in human history will eventually be saved and end up in heaven with Christ.  An excellent theologian defined a universalist as "someone who believes that every human being whom God has created or will create will finally come to enjoy the everlasting salvation into which Christians enter here and now"-- J.I. Packer.  Universalists rejects the mainstream Christian teaching on hell. They do not believe that a loving God can ever punish anybody in hell, because they rejected Christ for salvation. Is the teaching of universalism biblical? Is it true that there is no such thing as eternal damnation, as the proponents of universalism teaches? Let us scrutinize this particular doctrine of universalism to what is written in the holy writ, to ascertain w...

Is praying to angels biblical?

If you're a Christian and you do not acquaint yourself with the teaching of the bible, you will be tossed to and fro by every wind of false doctrine. False teachings are on a rise and many people are being led astray. Therefore, I beseech thee by the mercies of God to be wise as a serpent. Be an ardent student of the Holy writ, and your profiting will be evident to all. One way to fish out a false doctrine is simply to compare it with the scriptures. If the doctrine is consistent with God's word, then it is not a false doctrine, but if it is in direct antithesis with God's word, then that is a proof of a false doctrine. Let us apply this basic principle to the subject matter at hand. Is praying to angels biblical? We will view this question in the light of God's word to ascertain whether it is a false or a sound doctrine. Prayer is a form of worship   There are certain group of people who offers prayers to the holy angels in heaven. They believe angels acts as intermedi...

Is there second chance for salvation after death?

It is very imperative that as Christians, we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are some who are of the view that even after death, there is still hope of salvation for the departed souls. But this thought is in direct contradiction to the teaching of the bible. There is no where written in the holy writ, that those who die without saving faith in Christ Jesus will ever have the opportunity to hear the gospel again and be saved.  We die once  The bible says: And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment (Hebrews 9; 27) . God's word states clearly that after death comes judgement, which means that the eternal destiny of the departed souls have been sealed. There is no second chance for those who rejected Christ and died in their sins. The glorious gospel can only be accepted and rejected here on this side eternity and not in the afterlife. This is why apostle Paul by the Spirit wrote: For He says, "At the acc...

If Jesus was God, then why did he say, " No one is good except God alone?

This particular statement from our blessed Lord has been used as an occasion by skeptics to speak against the deity of Christ. At first glance, you might be tempted to think that Jesus actually denied his own deity. Personally, I struggled to comprehend why Jesus said, "No one is good except God alone? Does that mean He was not good, to wit, he was not God? But   I continued to study the meaning of what Jesus said until I finally understood it.  The passage itself  "As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, 'Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up." Looking at him...

Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?

This is a very difficult question that many of our brethren in the faith often ask. According to their candid opinion, the God described in the bible is not the same God in the Quran. The question is are their concerns really important? Does it matter whether we worship the same God or not? Other people also consider this question as baseless, because they believe Christians and Muslims worship the same God. The truth is that our understanding about God is different. We do not have the same view about the nature of God, because the God presented in the bible is not the same God in the Quran. Let us look at some of the things which distinguishes the God of the bible from the God in the Quran                                     The Trinity   The term trinity is nowhere found in the bible, but the concept of the trinity is truly biblical. God is triune in his nature, meaning he is one God wh...
